Join us for an informative and exciting tour through the Big Muddy Badlands. Explore the rich history of the area amid breathtaking scenery and an abundance of wildlife.

These tours cover a lot of ground, about 170 km or so in distance and much more time wise through geology and history.

The tours leave Coronach for the first stop at Castle Butte, an Ice Age relic that gives us a glimpse into the very distant past.

We then proceed to Big Beaver and more recent history with a visit to Aust’s General Store and the Big Beaver Nature Center which contains exhibits covering all aspects of the history of the area.

After leaving Big Beaver we proceed east to the Burgess Ranch for lunch in the Old Porch Gallery where Tammy Burgess will regale us with stories of the Outlaws of the Big Muddy along with some genral history of the valley and ranch life.

We head back west stopping first at the remains of the Big Muddy NWMP Post before heading to the Sam Kelly Outlaw Caves.

On the hills above the caves are a Ceremonial Circle and Turtle Effigy and tepee rings left by the natives that roamed the area.

A few miles north takes us to Paisley Brook School, a fine example of the one-room schools that once dotted the area.

We head west once again down some back roads with fine views of the countryside and local wildlife to our last stop at the Buffalo Effigy. This sacred native site is still in use and also provides some excellent panoramic views of the surrounding area.
